Sports Massage Therapy

Sports massage therapy at Clearwater Physical Therapy is tailored to various types of athletes, from beginners to professionals. The techniques used in sports massage focus on the specific needs of each athlete's sport, targeting overused and stressed areas of the body due to repetitive and aggressive movements. Sports massage is gaining popularity as a valuable component of a balanced training regimen. It can enhance pre-event preparation, shorten recovery time, improve flexibility, reduce fatigue, increase endurance, prevent injuries, and optimize performance. One key advantage of sports massage is its ability to target muscle-tendon junctions, improving range of motion and decreasing muscle soreness. Regular sports massage therapy, scheduled weekly or bi-weekly, can be a beneficial addition to a fitness routine. Clearwater Physical Therapy offers highly trained Registered Massage Therapists (RMT) who can customize a plan based on the individual's activity level, schedule, and budget. They also provide Direct Billing services for many insurance companies, offering convenience and assistance in accessing benefits.

Relaxation Massage

This is a gentle Swedish massage that uses smooth, gliding strokes to help you relax.  Our RMT will move at a slower pace and use lighter pressure. There is less emphasis on working out serious adhesions or “knots” in the muscle tissue, which can be uncomfortable and cause some people tense up against the pressure.

In a Relaxation massage, the therapist won’t push your pain limits in order to get the muscle to release. You might even fall asleep!  It’s a good choice for someone who is getting one for the first time, or someone who just wants to bring their stress level down.

Relaxation massages are also good for that special someone that deserves one as a special treat once a year.  It’s not realistic to expect that you can get rid of all your knots in one session. But to drift into a deeply relaxed state in fifty minutes — that’s doable!

There are substantial health benefits to a relaxation massage.  Gentle massaging stimulates sensory nerve endings in the skin, which transmit messages through the nervous system and cause the brain to release endorphins.  These are the body’s natural painkillers, feel-good chemicals that create a sense of well-being.

Massage further aids relaxation by stimulating the body’s parasympathetic nervous system, sometimes called the “rest and digest system.”  Blood pressure decreases, heart rate slows, and digestive activity increases. Relaxation massage also increase blood circulation and stimulates the body’s lymphatic system, which carries away waste products.
