A traditional Chinese medicine, acupuncture is used at Clearwater Physical Therapy as part of your treatment plan. It is an effective way to reduce pain and improve function, increase energy and enhance well-being. Our therapists have certification from the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute (CAFCI) as well as certification in Medical Acupuncture , taught by Dr. Stephen Aung.

Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese medicine involving the insertion of solid filiform acupuncture needles into the skin at specific points on the body to achieve a therapeutic effect. No drug is injected. The needles alone create the beneficial effects of acupuncture.  There is also the option to connect the needles, once inserted, to electrical stimulation for a deeper effect as compared to using only electrical stimulation on the surface of the skin.

Acupuncture is used to encourage natural healing, improve mood and energy, reduce or relieve pain and improve function of affected areas of the body. It is safe and effective and is often successfully used as an alternative to medications or even surgery. Relief is often obtained with acupuncture when traditional medical therapy has failed.

Our Physical Therapists are well trained in assessment of injury and symptoms and will use Acupuncture as a treatment modality to complement other physical therapy treatment techniques.
